Orizuru Japanese Restaurant

Orizuru Japanese Restaurant was a second-year, winter semester group-based project, where students were to develop and design a restaurant space. Students were given full control of how the space was to be designed, while also having to adhere to the Ontario Building Code. The following spreads showcase floorplans, sections, various material finishes, along with 3D renderings. The working drawings for this project can be viewed here

Concept: At Orizuru, the paper crane is a symbol of longevity and the cherry blossom is a thing of fleeting life and beauty. Much like the art of origami, a timeless tradition that emanates simplicity and elegance through the folding of fragile paper, Japanese tradition is seamlessly blended with modernity to submerge you into this serene environment, made complete with deliciously fresh and hand-crafted sushi. Paper screens, natural materials, and hints of blossom pink are reminiscent of Japanese culture while maintaining a contemporary feeling. Origami is merged into the layout through the sharp and crisp edges of the bar and lighting. Life is temporary, but experiences transcend time.
